General Information

We recommend bringing plenty of drinking water for each participant. It is important to remember that COMPLETELY CLOSED sneakers or hiking boots are required for all participants!

Archaeological Seminars Institute is NOT responsible for the theft or damage of any items brought with you or left in your car.

We are located in the Beit Guvrin National Park which is between Beit Shemesh and Kiryat Gat. Our staff will meet you in Parking Lot B inside the national park.

There is no public transportation to or from Beit Guvrin. Please note, that you must arrange the return trip in advance as there are no taxis in Beit Guvrin. If you use Waze, please list “Tel Maresha”. Attached is a link to waze

There are no restrooms in Parking Lot B but there are in Parking Lot A, Parking Lot C and at the gas station across the road from the National Park.

The activity involves digging in underground areas protected from the heat in the summer and the cold and rain in the winter.

The activity takes about two and a half to three hours and there are specific times, although each day has its own schedule.

The dig activity costs NIS 95 per adult and NIS 72 per child (5-18 years old).

Prices do not include National Park entrance fees.

Please note that all children must be always supervised by their parents or other accompanying adults.

There is no charge for children younger than 5 who may all come along and go into the excavation.  However, there is one part of the activity that they may NOT do.  This is a tour of an unexcavated cave system (which we call the crawl as there are some spots that are very small and tight and need to be crawled or slid through).  The crawl takes about 20 minutes and at least one of the adults will have to wait with the little ones above ground while the others are crawling.

A public dig and a private dig are the exact same activity.  The difference is that in a public dig you are put together with other families (about 30 participants total) and in a private dig your party is on its own with a guide just for you.  There is also, of course, a difference in price.

A private dig with restoration includes going to our restoration room to see how findings are cleaned and processe. It takes about four hours, give, or take and It’s a very interesting addition to the dig experience.

Cancellations are accepted up to 5 business days prior to a reserved dig.
